I love this time of year...the snow is gone (leaving mud in its place, of course) and it's supposed to be in the mid to high 70's the rest of the week!! I transferred up to Fostoria in April 1986, and that was the coolest morning drive to make! I'd go about 8 blocks west farther into town, & drop Tif off at her babysitter's...then go east out to US 23, and go north for an hour, and that was all it took to get to work! I remember the sun was always on my right side...and I never was around any city traffic...we didn't have any here, & there was even less in the towns/cities to the north, unless you were going to Cleveland or Toledo! I always kept my doors locked while I was still in town, even though it's not a bad town, but, once I got out on the highway, I unlocked both doors (it was a Honda Civic)...maybe that was a stupid thought, but, I was always thinking if I wrecked and hit my head and needed help, I wanted someone to be able to open the doors...
This was also the start of the "festival season" in northern Ohio...well, probably everywhere else too. The first one I remember going to was St Wendelin's church festival. That was fun! You (or, we!) bought beer in a plastic bucket, & got a bunch of flimsy plastic cups! Now that was a good time!! The one festival I never got to was the "Testicle Festival"! Not sure what town that's in, but I know it's in northern Ohio. And they have beer & deep fried hog nuts!! Hmmmmmmmmm...maybe THAT'S why I never felt drawn there to party. Just as well...knowing how I used to do anything when someone said "I dare you...", I might've ended up doing the unthinkable... :-(
Well, risking a bunch of resounding 'boo's' here because none of you reading this have much in common with me when it comes to some of my tastes...(that's ok...at least it's not hog balls!)....I got 2 books today I ordered a few days ago. Dick Morris & Mike Huckabee, and they're both signed & in good leather boxes, & have certificates! I'm happy!
So, since it's gonna be beautiful into the weekend, I'm gonna do the same thing I did last year at this time, go down to the Dollar Store and get stuff to make Easter baskets for Tif & Mr Tif, and the baby, and their 2 dogs!

Easter baskets! What memories! I used to have a practice with my son. He left his empty basket in his room and woke up with a filled on. I also had a Samoyed dog and she had tons and tons of long cottonball like white fur. I'd take some of her loose fur and leave it around the floor of my son's bedroom and tell him it was the bunny's fur. He kept it in sealed plastic bags each year. One year, he was freaked out by a large bunny being in his room and left the basket outside the bedroom door. hee hee I don't think I'd be going to a testicle festival. Here in Phoenix, the chocolate and romance festival (combination of romance writers and chocolatiers) is a hit!
autumnforest-what a good idea, leaving the dog's fur like bunny fur! man, i bet you had a blast being the tooth fairy!! haha!
I need to get my butt shopping for easter stuff too. I like the dollar store because I can give the princess a bunch of those little cheapo toys in addition to the candy without spending a fortune. The son informed me that he is counting on me to hide eggs stuffed with cash this year.
Hmmmm....he's pushing it.
christine, tell him that when he grew up & moved out, the EB delivers the plastic money & candy filled eggs to HIS place, doesn't he know that you gave the EB his forwarding address???
"I might've ended up doing the unthinkable... :-("
I think that sentence should have ended with a ":-)" not a ":-(".
oh and by the way: boo! ;)
The testicle festival seems, um, rather fattening. Are you sure the deep fried nuts came from hogs?
Trying to think: was Wendelin the patron Saint of beer in plastic containers?
I love springtime. It always makes me happy to break out the flip flops and skirts!
sj...oh, holy crap! you actually think i would've SMILED after i did something like that???
x---uhhhh...well, of course they were from hogs, unless the name of the town was "Revenge"... ;-)
meg---isn't this weather GREAT??
Freaking halarious!!
