okay, i met the surgeon today...

Okay, now I know more of what's happening...I met the surgeon today. He wants to take my damn thyroid (Helene asked 'why? doesn't he have one if his own?'...she's good, wish I'dve thought to ask him!).Anyway, I was saying 'all of it??', and he explained that they don't know exactly what this "node" is, so, to avoid a future operation, he wants it all out now. Which is the best way, I guess...I'll be damned if I want him to slit my neck twice...he IS hot, but I gotta draw the line somewhere. So I hafta see my ms dr Monday, & my regular dr Tuesday, then he'll talk to them & set a date for surgery :-/ .
I'm thinking that I might ask Joe to go out for some beer before the surgery...that was not a mistake, yes, I did say some beer, not a beer. :-)
Anyway, the insurance is figured out, I'm keeping what I have through Kev's old job with cobra. Expensive, but cheaper than paying for all the hospital & surgery bills myself. And the drug company that makes my expensive ms once-a-week shot called yesterday & they'll work with me. Yeah, it has been a busy few days, why do you ask
Okay, done~! BoUnCeS!! LibbY!

Hey Libby;
I'm glad you're on top of this. Did he explain to you the need to take thyroid med's the rest of your life to supplement the hormone once the gland is gone? Have you considered a second opinion? Whenever I hear a doc saying they want to take a whole gland out without a biopsy to tell them what it is, it makes me nervous. You are such a trooper through it all. Hope your family and friends are around to help you out. Keep us posted. Sending happy healthy energy your way.

I'm curious. What are the consequences of going through life without a thyroid?

Love the new look here... and I am continuing to send you loads of good wishes! I think going out for beer sssssss is a great idea, just not the day before the surgery! hehehe

. I think its great that you are, as Autumforest said, on top of all of this... and with a positive attitude!
Maybe its cuz the surgeon is totally Hot! hehehe (yes hot with a capital H hehe)

autumnforest-yeah, the hot dr explained the thyroid to me in simple terms...your thyroid is to your body like STP is to your car...it kinda makes everything work better & that yes, i'll have to take meds the rest of my life, but, $hit, with ms i already DO! not a problem....as far as a second opinion...are ya kidding? this guy is who i want to do my surgery...he's just cute, & kim, my best friend, said her dad says he's a great surgeon, he got her dad's portt installed when 2 or 3 other docs cldn't! oh, & by the way, did i say, he looks good? & well, i had a needle biopsy done 2 wks ago & the endocrinologist said it was inconclusive, so she recommends surgery if it's questionable.

x-i'm getting ready to read up on all that on webmd...but, if there's anything inside ME that's questionable....i want it out of me! i know you'd be like that if it was you!

helene-you just gotta wonder what kind of dreams i'll have when i drift off under anesthesia & he's slitting my throat!

I'm sorry to hear you're going through another rough patch health-wise. You've sure had your fair share of them. I'll say a little prayer for you, and beem Positive Hippy Vibes your way.

I really liked the little "Not a good sign" graphic- it made me laugh!
